Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve described how I spend my working week and I’ve received plenty of comments with people genuinely surprised how many hours that we work.

If you’ve been in real estate sales before (or had a family member in real estate sales), you’ll know exactly what I mean when I say that selling real estate is a ‘24/7’ job with little time to ‘turn off’.

So here’s how I generally spend the last three days of my week…

Friday

Friday’s tend to go one way or the other for me – I can be a little quieter and use the time effectively to catch up on e-mails and calls or it can be crazy!

On this particular Friday, it’s a little bit busier than normal with an early start (I’m in front of my computer by 6:30 AM) and I’m catching up on e-mails and phone calls until 8:30 AM.

I have my first appointment at 9:00 AM where I’m filming a video aiming to promote another business in the area before I attend my first listing appointment of the  day at 10:00 AM.

I then head home and spend a little time with daughter (as she’s on school holidays) before I have a meeting with my team at 1:00 PM to discuss the month’s progress and ideas on where we can improve as a team.

I attend 2 listing appointments in the afternoon before I spend dinner with my family and once everyone in in bed, I head to my home office and send out a number of market reports to some prospective sellers.

I’m in bed around 11:00 PM

Saturday

As you’d expect Saturday is the busiest day of the week.

Simon, Tom and I head out to install our open home directional signs quite early (around 6:00 AM) before we head home for a shower, a quick bite to eat and get to the first open home of the day at 9:00 AM.

As per normal, we have open homes until 3:00 PM followed by a few private inspections on properties and once finished, we collect our open home signs and head back to the office where we unpack our cars, have a quick bite to eat for lunch and then call everyone that’s attended our open homes that day.

We don’t leave until we’re finished (which can be as late as 8:30 PM some Saturdays) but today we’re done by around 6:00 PM.

Tina has an offer to sign up and I’m spending Saturday night with my family but sneaking in a few calls here and there as we’re negotiating a few offers at the moment.

I often have a glass of wine on a Saturday night but I’m normally pretty spent and will often be in bed by 10:00 PM.

Sunday

On this particular Sunday, I have a little ‘sleep in’ (about 7:30 AM before I get our of bed) and have breakfast with my family.

I have a couple of morning appointments on this particular Sunday and head home to make a few calls and continue some contract negotiations.

I’m done working by 1:00 PM where I’ll spend the afternoon with family (and catch up on some badly needed mowing of the yard) before I cook dinner for the kids and get everyone to bed by 8:00 PM…then it’s back to my home office where I’ll plan my week ahead and set my goals and call some of our sellers updating them on current contract negotiations.

I’m finally in bed by 10:30 PM ready to go again.

So there’s a typical week in my life…not exactly heading into the office and putting my feet on the desk whilst waiting for the phone to ring.

Next week, I’ll discuss how I believe some agents prioritise their own self-promotion ahead of the properties that they’re selling when they’re advertising these properties…and how this could have a detrimental effect on the value of their clients’ homes.

Until then, Happy Listing and Selling!
